Tat Days 2012

Wow! Wow! Wow!
It seemed that that was all I could say for the first day and a half.  It was AMAZING.
The people, the knowledge floating around in the air, the enthusiasm of everyone, the wonderful display of tatted pieces, the silent auction items, and of course the vending room--I could go on.

You all know this was my first time to attend and I really do feel as though I walked around in awe the entire time.

From the time of my arrival til departure time, the hospitality of everyone was so incredible.  The knowledge seriously floated in the air, whether it was in a class or just visiting in the lobby area, chatting in line or at the table in the dining hall, or just walking through any of the areas.   Gosh, I do not mean to sound like a marketing brochure.  But, AWE was the state that I was in.

Some of the people I got to meet and take classes from:
Jane Eborall!!!! WOW!  I got to meet her in person.
Martha Ess
Nina Libin
Riet
IsDihara (Karen)
Jess Foster
Karey Solomon
Marilee Rockley
Sue Fuller
Randy Houtz
Kaye Judt
Plus so many more that I met.  I am terrible with names...so please do not get your feelings hurt if I do not mention your name.  It was also good to see Georgia, Gwen and others from previous Atlanta Workshops that I attended.

Sorry this is late--Life really does get in the way.

Happy tatting,

JB

I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!

I am registered for Palmetto Tat Days.  This will be my first time to attend.
I can not wait to meet all of you wonderful tatting friends in person that will be there.  Please send me some tips and hints on how to make the most of that weekend.  Do I need to get lots of sleep the week before to "try to build up before sleep deprivation" or "bring lots of energy drinks and bars for stamina"?  Also, will I receive a list of supplies to bring or do I bring most everything in my tatting closet incase I need it?

Gosh, I sound like a newbie nerd.  But, I am just so excited.

PIF Giveaway

I participated in the Pay It Forward giveaway on Tudy's Craft Cupboard blog and now it's my turn.

I will make something handmade for each of the first 3 people that signs up for my PIF. Then each of those people will carry on the PIF on their blog and in turn will send something handmade to three people, and so on.
So who would like to receive a lovely handmade gift? And maybe even a little surprise with it. Just leave a comment on this post and make sure you have your email showing on blogger and I'll be in touch soon! Thanks! I will take just the first 3 that leave a comment and are willing to follow up with a PIF when they get the one I send.
Are there any participants out there?

New Tatting Forums Shuttle

Check out my new shuttle.  It is beautiful!  Chris and Erin do a wonderful job making their shuttles.  Can't wait to try it out with my next project.  It will with one of those new threads.

Scrumptious New Thread

The mail brought me these two beautiful threads from Tatilicious.  First is Fancy Fields and then Rainbow-licious.  Now, the hard part is choosing a pattern to showcase the thread the best.

Unfortunately, I have not been tatting much since Easter.  My new thread is calling me to get started on something creative.

Pretty New Shuttle

I was one of the lucky winners of Mary Donohue's decorated shuttle giveaway.  She did a great job decorating both shuttles.  Here is the package that I received.  The Shuttle is beautiful!  Also included was a ball of size 40 Anchor thread and a bag of red beads that will be perfect for the tatted ribbon trees that I will be making for Christmas presents.  Thank you so much Mary.  I love all the goodies and the shuttle is awesome.

Wishing All A Happy Easter!

HE is Alive!

Here are motifs 16 & 17 of the Motif Challenge.
Motif #16
Egg #12 tatted in HDT color "Snowflake" by Marilee Rockley
Motif #17
Egg #23 tatted in another HDT color "Cloud 9" also by Marilee Rockley
Easter tree 2012
Here is my Easter tree with 15 eggs on it.  I am done with eggs for this year.  Maybe the rest of the eggs in the TATTED EASTER EGG book by Kirsten Wind Hansen will be added to the tree next year.  I really wanted to tat all 24 eggs--but ran out of time.  The eggs were simple to tat.  However,  most of them required some thought to decipher the instructions.  The instructions could be a little more clear.

A Baker's Dozen

Here is motif challenge #15.  It is egg #18 from the same book.  Tatted in Lizbeth Salmon Med., of course size 20.  This turned out to be a sweet egg.  However, I am not a fan of dimpled rings as I usually end up breaking the thread while closing.  I had to start over three times before I figured out how to close the ring without breaking the thread.  Thank you Jane E. for your tips and techniques pages.  The explanation is so clear and so helpful.  This is the thirteenth egg.

It's Here and I love it!!!  Sherry Pence's new book.  Great job LadyShuttleMaker - beautiful patterns. I am so glad I purchased it.

A Watermelon Egg

Motif Challenge #14 is egg #4 from the book.  It is tatted in Lizbeth's Juicy Watermelon size 20 with lime green   size 6 beads.  The colors are very pretty.  One thing about the eggs is that it is a fun way to try out threads.

LadyShuttleMaker's Mug

I  had to have one of LadyShuttleMaker's ceramic mugs.  It is so pretty.  Too cool to have a mug with lace motifs all over.  I love coffee and love tatting--so it's the best of both.  Thanks Sherry for sharing your talent.

Here's another one

Here is motif challenge #13.  It is egg #2 from the TATTED EASTER EGG book.  Tatted in Lizbeth's Pink Parade using size 20.   This is a cute egg. The tree is turning out nice--getting close to a dozen.

Crazy Mom Tats!

I will post a picture when it is ready to be mailed.

Another Egg again

Here is Motif Challenge #12. It is egg #16 made from Lizbeth Pink Cocoa. But, I think of it as Jane Eborall's Pink Cocoa. I love the way this egg turned out. I usually avoid split chains, but I decided to go ahead and give it a try. Luckily the split chain landed in the brown section of the thread. So, imperfections are not as visible. Please don't look too close. I need to follow Fox and "practice, practice, practice". The actual design may have looked better in a solid color, but I like how it turned out. Don't forget to sign up for my 3rd Blogaversary Giveaway.

3 Year Blogaversary Giveaway

Wow! Today is the three year anniversary of my blog. I can not believe it has been three whole years since I won Gina's PIF giveaway. The stipulations were that I had to post the PIF picture on my blog and offer a giveaway. In honor of the past three years and Gina Brummett's memory and inspiration, I am hosting a giveaway.

The winner will receive a package that includes a tatted piece plus more surprises. The traditional gift for a 3rd anniversary is leather and the modern gift is glass. Interesting.....

The winner will be chosen via random number generator on March 22.

Here are the rules:

1. You must sign up on this post only by leaving a comment including an email address for contacting the winner.

2. For a second chance post a link to where you mentioned this giveaway on your blog.

Good luck and happy tatting,

Motif Challenge #11 An Egg again

Motif Challenge #11 is egg #6. Lizbeth Lemon Yellow was used for this very simple egg. As a child, I always had a pale yellow egg. So I had to have one for the collection. I am really liking the collection of eggs I'm gathering.

Another Egg

Motif Challenge #10 is egg #8. The center is tatted with Lizbeth Spring Flower and the outer rounds are Turquoise Lt. The colors are much more vibrant than the picture shows. I think this is one of my favorites.

Egg and Eggs

Here is motif Challenge #9. It is egg #15 from the book. The butterfly is tatted in DMC Pastel variegated. The outer round in DMC Cebelia lavender, all size 20. The DMC pastel variegated is my favorite thread in those colors. Lizbeth has a thread that is very similiar in color way but is just not the same. And now for the eggs...Today I took a wire wrapping class at our local bead store. Here is the bird's nest pin with freshwater pearls for the eggs that I made. It really turned out so cute. I will be making some more of these for gifts. It was really fun and easy.
I'm trying so hard to get at least a dozen eggs done before Easter. There are two dozen eggs in the book--not sure all of them will be made. I have got to get done with these so that I can go on to the tat a long project. I am enjoying watching the progress of all the participants. I also want to make Karey Solomons "Lady" bookmark from her new "Bouquet of Bookmarks" book. It is so different and interesting.

25 Motif Challenge

Motif #8 is egg #14 tatted in Sunset Clouds HDT by LadyShuttleMaker. This egg uses the roll stitch. I like the look of the roll stitch, but I think Josephine Knots would look good too and would not make the fingers ache from the death grip.

25 Motif Challenge

Motif #7 is egg #13 tatted in Raspberry Ripple with Vanilla HDT by Tatskool. This egg was simple to make in one round. A reminder that the eggs are coming from TATTED EASTER EGGS by Kirsten Wind Hansen.

25 Motif Challenge

Motif #6 is the tree designed by Jane Eborall. I really like this tree ornament. It was tatted using Lizbeth #144 Leaf Swirl and red glass seed beads.

Someone I Am Glad To Have Known

My heart is broken. Gina Brummett has been a wonderful tatting and blog mentor, teacher and friend. Although we never met face to face, we exchanged several emails over the years. I began reading TattingGoddessUpdates on Yahoo groups several years ago and went on to follow her blog when she gave up moderating TGU.

I began my blog because she hosted a PIF giveaway, and I won. One of the stipulations was that the winner would post the PIF picture on their blog and host a giveaway to "pay it forward". Gina was very instrumental in the creation of my blog and gave me excellent advice. I have a few pieces of her tatting and crochet--they were already precious to me, now they are even more so.

I will miss her tremendously. My prayers are with her family.

Happy Valentine's Day!

My dear husband is the best! He gave me this lovely bracelet for Valentine's Day. It is a Ronaldo design. The best part is that a portion of the proceeds goes to Spina Bifida Research.
I hope everyone has a Happy Valentine's Day!

TIAS 2012 Completed & 25 Motif Challenge

Please meet the debonaire William T. Goat. He is such a classy and friendly guy. Can goats be classy????? Hm...oh well this one is!
Thank you Jane for hosting so much fun for tat land. You are an incredible teacher and so generous to share your love of tatting and vast knowledge with us. I personally hope that one day I will be able to meet you at one of the wonderful tatting workshops.
This is motif #5 in the 25 Motif Challenge.

25 Motif Challenge

Motif #4 is Egg #11 tatted in "Sunset" HDT from LadyShuttleMaker with yellow seed beads. I think I broke more beads than were actually tatted in the design. I have never experienced seed beads with that small of a center hole. Finding a bead that would work got to be very frustrating. Other than that, the design was simple to tat even with the SCMRs.Happy tatting,

25 Motif Challenge

Motif #3 is Egg #7 from TATTED EASTER EGGS by Kirsten Wind Hansen. Tatted in Lizbeth #115 Springtime and #680 Spring Green with size 6 spring colored glass beads. I was afraid that the beads were going to be too big, but they actually turned out pretty. So far, this is my favorite look.Happy tatting,

25 Motif Challenge

I decided to try the 25 motif challenge this year. I have always enjoyed following that blog and am always impressed by the beautiful pieces that participants create.

I began working my way through the "Tatted Easter Eggs" book by Kirsten Wind Hansen. Here is Motif #1. It is Egg #1 made in Lizbeth #127 Butterfly Breeze, size 20.

Day 6 of fun. Gosh, this segment made me use my critical thinking skills. To get it to work and look like the diagram, I reversed two of the split rings. Hope it doesn't cause me problems later.

Day 4 TIAS

Here is day 4 of the TIAS.

Also, here is Jane's new tree ornament. I loved this tree when I saw it made with ribbon on sunshineyellow-stitches.blogspot.com. So when Jane made the tatted one, I was so excited and had to make one. This will be the Christmas ornament for all the ladies in my family this year. So far they have only received snowflakes.Happy tatting while waiting for day 5,

Happy New Year!

I want to wish you a Happy New Year. I hope that you have many blessings and complete numerous projects in your favorite craft.

Here are pictures of the wonderful SS packages that I received. I love all the goodies in both packages.
This is from Michelle Brewer Vitt, I enjoyed wearing the snowflake set so much and received lots of compliments. I have made the beaded angel now and it is too cute. It's ready for the Christmas tree next year. This is from Tami Drader. The snowflakes are beautiful. She made the prairie bag. It is so cool and perfect for tatting.

This is what I sent to my exchanges partners--difference in the two were the colors of the thread, beads and shuttle.Happy tatting,
